TURN FIN FIX
The new rear sponson pad increases the
sponson’s depth a little more than 1/4
inch. To ensure the boat will continue
to corner properly in a racing situation,
it is necessary to fabricate a new turn
fin bracket that will allow the turn fin to
be lowered 1/4 inch. The bracket can be
made out of 1/8-inch aluminum L-angle
material. The photos show a bracket and
a Grim Racer turn fin attached to the
bracket.
4Glue the front 1/32-
inch plywood
sheeting to the
sponson.
5Here’s the complete sponson mod. The wood has been sealed with resin and
sanded smooth. You can leave it as is, or you
can paint it to match the rest of your hull. The
side view shows how the new sponson mod
blends into the sides of the hydro’s sponson
area. Painting improves the boat’s appearance.
